Who I am

I'm Adam Johnstone, a sole trader trading as Adam J Photography. I photograph weddings, events and brands. I'm the "controller" of your personal data, which means I decide how it's used. You can contact me at contact@adamjphotography.co.uk. I'm based in the UK.

What I collect

  • Enquiries: if you use my contact form, I collect your name, email address, shoot type, date, location, budget and your message.
  • Clients: if you book, I also collect billing and contact details, contract and payment records, and shoot details such as venues, timings and key people.
  • Photographs: pictures of you and your guests, staff or attendees. Wedding photos can sometimes show things like religious beliefs. I treat these with extra care and use them only to deliver your photos, unless you agree otherwise.
  • Website use: my site runs on Squarespace, which uses cookies and similar technology to keep the site working and to give me anonymous statistics about visits (see Cookies below).

Why I use it, and my lawful bases

  • Replying to enquiries and preparing quotes: a step you've asked for before we agree a contract, or my legitimate interest in answering you.
  • Delivering your shoot, galleries and invoices: needed to perform our contract.
  • Keeping accounts and tax records: a legal obligation.
  • Event and brand coverage of attendees: my legitimate interest, and my client's, in recording the event.
  • Using identifiable images in my portfolio, blog or Instagram: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. If you do, I'll stop using the images in new posts and remove them where I reasonably can.
  • Website analytics: your consent, through the cookie banner.

I don't sell your data, and I don't make any automated decisions about you.

Who I share it with

I share data only with providers who help me run my business, under contracts that protect it:

  • Squarespace (website hosting, forms and analytics)
  • Google Workspace (email and file storage)
  • My online gallery, payment and accounting providers
  • A print lab, if you order prints

I'll also share data if the law requires it.

International transfers

Some providers, including Squarespace and Google, may process data outside the UK, for example in the USA or the EU. Where that happens, I rely on recognised safeguards: UK adequacy regulations (including the UK–US Data Bridge), or the ICO's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

How long I keep it

  • Enquiries that don't become bookings: 12 months after our last contact.
